Zante, also known as Zakynthos, has all the ingredients for a great family holiday, with long sandy beaches offering numerous watersports, a varied nightlife as well as plenty of tavernas and restaurants to choose from.

The Island

The most southerly of the Ionian Islands, Zante also known as Zakynthos, ranges from mountainous landscapes to gentle hills and flat countryside, it’s renowned for its stunning coastline and offers a number of watersports activities. The capital Zante Town once destroyed by an earthquake in 1953 was rebuilt as closely as possible to its original form, set along a picturesque harbour lined with cobbled streets, numerous tavernas and restaurants, as well as several museums and in August host to a colourful carnival.

Resorts

There are a variety of resorts to suit all families’ needs, from the small quiet kind to the large modern bustling resorts. The party capital is Laganas with a lively nightlife, family friendly bars and 5 miles of sandy beach, next along is Kalamaki a family resort with unspoilt sandy beaches and a relaxed nightlife. Also on the south coast is the Vassilikos peninsula, a small picturesque resort surrounded by fields and mountains and home to several gently shelving sandy beaches. On the south-east coast is Argassi, once a small suburb of Zante town, it offers safe beaches and a friendly atmosphere ideal for a family holiday. North of Zante town is Tsilivi, a fairly lively resort with plenty of bars and restaurants, family activities and even a few clubs. The resort of Alykanas shares its long sandy beach with Alykes, slightly larger than its neighbour; Alykanas has many tavernas and restaurants, as well as a range of watersports.

Things To Do

Zante offers plenty to keep the family entertained, visit Smugglers Cove only accessible by boat this modern smugglers’ shipwreck lays half buried in the sand, or take a boat trip to Olympia on the mainland, the birthplace of the Olympic Games. Situated 4km from Zante Town, the Water Village features slides, pools, a lazy river, children’s pool and water games, ideal for a family day out.
