Elounda is famed for its luxury 5 star hotels and predominantly aimed at couples; though with access to nice beaches, calm waters, plenty of watersports on offer and seafront tavernas make this ideal for a relaxed family holiday.

The Resort

The resort is made up of four villages, Pano, Kato Elounda, Mavrikiano and the more popular Skisma, the port of Elounda. The nightlife is more low-key with a good selection of tavernas, restaurants and modern bars as well as a couple of discos.

The Beaches

Elounda’s beaches are a mixture of sand and pebble, most offer sun-loungers and umbrella hire, and watersports facilities with seafront restaurants and cafes close by.

The main sandy beach Schisma is located next to the port; the pebbly beach of Plaka has a great view of Spinalonga Island, and the sand and shingle Driros Beach also has a windsurfing club.

Things To Do

Take a boat trip to the island of Spinalonga and the area’s more isolated beaches, some of which are only accessible from the water. Alternatively explore the island, regular local buses run east along the coast from here to Agios Nikolaos, where long-distance regional buses go west to Heraklion, Rethymnon and Chania.
