Things To Do

The area has a host of entertainment options of the cultural and holiday fun kind, with waterparks, an aquatic zoo and even the Port Aventura theme park all within easy reach. There are plenty of interesting day trips and local excursions to be enjoyed from the resort or travel further afield to the major visitor attractions of Barcelona and the Benedictine monastery in the mountainous region of Montserrat. There are regular boat excursions to neighbouring coastal resorts, these act as water taxis so you can stop off and visit popular spots such as Blanes, Tossa de mar and Lloret de Mar.

Costa Maresme

Calella is actually located on the Costa Maresme, which is commonly regarded as being part of the better-known Costa Brava. The resort is next-door to the Costa Brava which officially starts 12km north at Malgrat de mar. The Costa Maresme extends from just north of Barcelona, 65km northeast to the southern boundary of Costa Brava.

The Beaches

Calella has three main beaches of coarse sand, there’s a sports complex and watersports club on the beachfront offering a large range of facilities including windsurfing, kayaking, sailing and pedalos. The main beach is Platja Gran Calella, which during the summer has seven temporary beach bars erected all with toilets and showers, the beach also has a restaurant and the Calella nautical club as well as two rafts with water slides are anchored 100 metres offshore. The beach of Garbi is only reachable by foot or bicycle via an underground pass leading to the promenade, there are five beach bars here in the summer and every bar has a wooden walkway for wheelchair access. Les Roques is the smaller beach and has a beach bar, shower and toilets. Beyond the sandy beaches you’ll find secluded rocky coves which includes a naturist beach.
