Santorini
The volcanic island of Santorini or Thira is located in the Cyclades
islands, in the middle of the Greek Islands of the Aegean Sea.
This stunning island is made up of white-washed villages and blue
domed churches and is said to have some of the most beautiful sunsets
in the world.
The Beaches
Santorini is a volcanic island and is therefore made up of dark grey or black sand beaches. The beaches offer safe swimming and there are always plenty of watersports on offer.
The most popular beaches are situated on the East coast. Monolithos is perfect for windsurfing whereas Kamari is popular with tourists and can get busy.
In the far north of the island is the resort of Oia which is one of the best spots to watch the sun setting.
Armeni or Ammoudi beaches are worth the effort if you don't mind walking up and down hundreds of steps and is a good place to pick up volcanic pumice stones.
