Afandou

This peaceful resort lies slightly inland and is a traditional Greek village with a good choice of bars, tavernas, restaurants and supermarkets.

In high season, a miniature train makes regular runs from Afandou's main square to the beach, using a flyover to pass over the busy main road. For many visitors, Afandou's main draw is its 18-hole golf course, overlooking the sea.

The nightlife of Afandou is very low key with open air bars and cafes lining the main square. For more lively nightlife it is best to head to Faliraki (5km away) where there are late night bars and clubs.

Afandou Beach is a 4km stretch of fine pebble and sand beach that gives way to a clear, shallow, calm sea. Several sections of the beach have been awarded a Blue Flag for cleanliness, and are equipped with sun beds and umbrellas, watersports' facilities, and overlooked by a handful of informal tavernas and snack kiosks.

Afandou beach is perfect for kids as it is a safe distance from busy traffic and offers shallow, calm water.

For those seeking the thrill of a water park, just 5km south of Afandou lies Faliraki where there is the Faliraki Water Park with a vast complex of pools, giant Jacuzzi and slides. There is also a Luna Park funfair and go-kart track in Faliraki.

Afandou has several small supermarkets as well as souvenir shops. For those looking for more extensive shopping Rhodes Town is easily accessible for leather goods, Turkish-inspired carpets and ceramics.

The island has a regular bus service and throughout the Summer months ten buses per day run along the east coast from Afandou to Rhodes Town. There are also regular local buses between Afandou and Kolimbia.
