La Romana

La Romana is the third-largest city in the Dominican Republic and is situated opposite Catalina Island. It's filled with beautiful beaches and many hotels and resorts.

The Casa de Campo Resort complex is the flagship of the La Romana All Inclusive Resorts area and is renown as the premiere destination in the Caribbean. The resort houses 3 championship golf courses, one of them being the famous "Teeth of The Dog" which is ranked 25th in the world. The Casa de Campo resort also houses its own polo fields and a private airstrip.

The other resort, Altos De Chavón, is a replica of a 17th century Mediterranean village located just minutes from La Romana. Here you’ll find artists’ studios, craft-shops, galleries, restaurants and bars. There is also a 5000 seat amphitheatre that attracts big name artists. The most popular beach is La Minitas which is a small beach and lagoon that can be reached by golf cart or shuttle bus. There is also a large crescent shaped beach at Bayahibe.

For those seeking more secluded beaches where you can also enjoy diving in La Romana then you will need to take a short 45-minute boat ride to Catalina Island.

Diving in La Romana and especially at Catalina Island will give experienced divers the chance to see larger fish such as multi-colored fluorescent fish, purple sea fans, and grouper. The National Park of the East is another great diving La Romana areas with various coral formations. Saona Island is a bit more exciting for wreck divers as you can visit the sunken St. Georges barge.

Golf is also very popular with the Teeth of the Dog Course and the Casa de Campo.

There are also many tours including trips to other cities such Santa Domingo City with its popular attractions such as Cathedral of Santa Maria la Menor and San Nicolas, a 16th century church.
